Why Your Ductless System Needs Maintenance
Ductless air conditioners can supplement an overworked air conditioning system by cooling a specific area of your house. If you live in Southport, North Carolina, you might have one of these systems and are unsure about how to maintain it. There are several steps you and a professional can take to make sure your ductless system operates to the best of its ability.
Check the Outside
One of the easiest ways to care for your ductless system is to keep the exterior clean from dust and debris. Dust and other particles can infiltrate the unit and cause damage to the interior. Use a damp cloth or chemical cleaner and wipe down the exterior. While you’re outside, make sure nothing is blocking the vent. If you use the unit for heating, check the exterior for condensation, ice, or snow, as these can hinder its efficiency. You should also make sure nothing is within four feet of the unit as this can prevent air from flowing.
Replace or Clean the Filters
Every ductless system has an indoor evaporator with removable air filters. It’s important to clean these filters regularly. Remove them from the inside of the unit, and use a dry cloth to wipe the filters. Check the user manual to see how often you need to do this task. If you have pets or people in your house with allergies, you might need to clean your filters. At some point, you will need to replace them, especially if they’re damaged or torn.
Schedule Maintenance
When properly maintained, ductless systems can cut cooling costs by about 30 percent when compared to traditional systems. Your ductless system needs routine service completed to work as well as a traditional HVAC system. It’s best to have a professional do this task before the heating season begins and before the cooling season hits.
